Tokyo, After the Crowds Go Home

Unhurried evening walks through Tokyo’s old neighborhoods, guided by a Japanese local who knows the stories behind them.

When the day-trippers leave, the old streets of Tokyo grow quiet. Lanterns come on, shutters come down, and the city starts to sound like a neighborhood again. Ichigo Japan walks these hours with small groups of travelers who would rather listen than tick off sights.

How we walk

01

Local storyteller

Guided in English by a Japanese local. Not a script — the stories of the streets you are standing in.

02

Small groups

Never more than 6 guests, so you can hear every word, ask anything, and stop when something catches your eye.

03

Stories over sights

We skip the checklist. A narrow lane, a small shrine or a hand-painted sign can say more about Tokyo than any landmark.

04

Evening hours

Most walks begin around dusk, when the old neighborhoods are at their most atmospheric and the day crowds have gone.

Small groups, capped at 6

Best for

Who these walks are for

  1. Not your first time in Tokyo

You have seen the famous crossings and the big temples. Now you want the city that lives between them.

  2. People who love photography

A slow pace, frequent stops and evening light. A camera or a phone — both are welcome.

  3. Listeners who want the untold stories

You are curious about the stories that never made it into the guidebook, and the people behind them.

FAQ

Before you walk

Where do tours meet?

Each tour meets near a train or subway station in its area. The exact meeting point, with a map and a photo, is shared in your booking confirmation.

What happens if it rains?

Tours go ahead in light rain — bring an umbrella or a light rain jacket. If heavy rain, a typhoon or a weather warning makes the walk unsafe, we will cancel and you will receive a full refund through the platform you booked on.

What is the cancellation policy?

Bookings are made through online travel platforms such as GetYourGuide or Viator, and the cancellation terms shown on the listing at the time of booking apply. See our Cancellation Policy page for details.

Can you accommodate dietary restrictions?

Most tours are walks without a meal. Where a tour includes a food or drink stop, please tell us about allergies or dietary needs when you book and we will do our best to adjust or suggest alternatives.

Can I bring children?

Children are welcome when accompanied by an adult. Evening tours involve walking for around two hours and finish after dark, so please consider whether this suits your child. Strollers can be difficult on some narrow lanes.

What language are the tours in?

Tours are guided in English by a Japanese local. Japanese is also available. Groups are capped at 6 guests so everyone can hear and ask questions.
